Winning an Academy Award for Best Musical Score (Michel Legrand) and nominated for three additional Oscars, this box-office hit is the sensual, heartwarming and sentimental story of three 15-year-old boys who spend a pleasant but sometimes painful summer vacation in New England. While his friends fumble with girls their own age, one boy finds first love in the arms of Jennifer O’Neill (“Bare Essence”), a young war bride. An appealingly nostalgic and touching story rated three stars by Leonard Maltin. MPAA Rating: R (c) 1971 A Warner Bros. Entertainment Inc. All Rights Reserved #Trailer #WB

  • I was a senior in high school when this film came out. It was coming of age for me too.

  • MICHEL LEGRAND FALECEU HOJE ( 26/01/2-19 ) FEZ ESTA MÚSICA MARAVILHOSA DO FILME "VERÃO DE 42" EM 1971 – FILME SIMPLESMENTE INESQUECÍVEL ! ASSISTI NO CINE MARABÁ EM JUNDIAÍ, PARECE QUE EU VIVI TODOS ÀQUELES MOMENTOS, ALIÁS, DOCES MOMENTOS ! LEGRAND DESAPARECE MAS DEIXA UM LEGADO DE GRANDES REALIZAÇÕES – TINHA UMA DIVINDADE TODA ESPECIAL PARA COMPOR ESTAS OBRAS PRIMAS ! SALVE MICHEL LEGRAND !

  • One of the best movies Hollywood ever put out. Filmed in beautiful Mendocino village in northern California.
My girl friend lived there and looked very similar to Jennifer O'Neill. Legrand's music is superb!

  • Hadn't seen this since the theater (whole movie on dailymotion). Oddly, Jennifer O'Neil looks & sounds like a '70s, not 40s, woman..the hairstyle & that certain way of speaking w/ the affected British intonation when asking questions, that some people did in the early 70s

  • I tried posting this trailer on Facebook and it's been flagged! What kind of penzias world are we living in?

  • Even if you were born in the 70's like me this piece of art brings you to experience what is like to be a teenager in the 40's
    What a Magical movie

  • What a great movie and what a great song..moving,touching,wonderful.

  • Brain Griffin from Family guy brought me here. S6:E11. At 19:49 of that episode he mentioned summer 42 and that is how I know about it now and I will watch it tonight 🙂
